The Gibson Edition was inspired – like Marian’s bar - by the classic cocktail and its pickled onion garnish.
The exact origin of the cocktail is unknown but the most likely is that it was born in New York City at the Players Club. Charles Dana Gibson (the artist) challenged Charles Connelly bartender at the club to improve the Martini, he switched the olive for a pickled onion and the Gibson cocktail was born.
The earliest published reference is in the 1908 book ‘The Worlds drinks and how to mix them’ by William Boothby.
The Gibson Edition is a unique savoury style of gin, using the 5 original Copperhead classic botanicals of juniper, coriander seed, cardamom,angelica, and orange peel, plus distillations of an additional 14 carefully selected spices traditionally used in pickling including mace, pepper, cassia, bay leaf, ginger, all spice , fennel and dill seeds. A touch of eight - year- old genever is finally added to complete the smooth and complex taste.
Perfect for martinis including the Gibson, The Gibson Edition can be used for a pickled twist to cocktails, and also combined with tonic water to create a unique G&T with your favourite pickle as a garnish.
